To carry one of these, is to carry a work of art. Each piece is carefully handwoven by indigenous communities in the North Coast of Colombia, using techniques passed down for centuries from generation to generation.
Located deep in the La Guajira desert, close to the Colombian and Venezuelan border, is a traditional, historical, indigenous community known as the people of the sun, sand and wind €š¬‚¬œ the Wayuu tribe, who create these amazing pieces.
Made of sturdy cotton, this bag is tightly woven with a single strand of thread, in a process that takes from 3 to 6 weeks, transferring their cultural identity, knowledge, and passion.
Once the mochila is completely handwoven and its strap attached, it's ready for a week-long lush treatment of colors, fabrics and textures, hand-embroidered to highlight the original bag design.
